I think I've heard something about the factory 99-02 silverado lights not working well with HID's. Am I remembering correctly, or am I crazy?  Also what's the recomendations as far as heat?  I think I got 4300k, or 5000k in my 08 and am happy. What's a good output for the factory 99 silverados?

remember when we tried one of my HID bulbs in Derek's stock headlight?  it shined more light on the wall of the garage to the side than it did straight ahead.  There is some headlights made aftermarket, I think TYC or something like that, they worked fine with HID's but the stock lights SUCK and accomplish nothing but blinding other people while projecting less usable light straight ahead.

yea the older silvys have the flutted (sp) lenses.... ya know, theyre not clear they have the lines in them... well that creates more a floodlight type ouput with hids, the newer ones with the clear lenses have a lil more beam effect... i would suggest an aftermarket light of some kind maybe with a projector.... my 0.02..   cheers

I think the manufacturer of the bulb you buy also determines how well it works with the housing. I've got the 02' housings and most the the light is projected straight ahead, granted it doesn't have those crispy Acura TL lines but it works.

In the import world, some Honda owners recommend D2R bulbs that apparently come with some sort of shield on 'em.  Haven't bothered to investigate.

There are 2 common types of HID bulbs. D2R and D2S. The D2R has a reflector mask on the bulb to direct light. The D2S doesn't.
D2R capsules are designed to be used in headlights that use reflectors to direct light. D2S is designed for a projector type light.

4300k is the only way to go if want emit a pure white light, and are the brightest or all the Xenon bulbs. As the temperature gets higher, and the color changes, first blue , then pruple, etc, the light output goes down and the glare goes up.

With that being said, I run 6K in the GTP and 8K in the regal. I would say 6K is the best for light output and the HID look if you care about that.. haha

I'm a reseller for hidxtra- http://www.hidextra.com/HID+Conversion+Kits/Automobile+HID+Kits/SLIM+HID+Conversion+Kit/SLIM+Automobile+HID+Kit/SLIM+Automobile+HID+Conversion+Kit.html

One year warranty on ballasts and bulbs- bulbs will not be warrantied if you physically break one, though. I haven't personally needed to warranty anything other than a set of starting capacitors for a Volvo (stock wiring harness is really wimpy, so they're a must have)

These kits are manufactured in S. Korea. (The same people can make a cell phone the size of an Iphone with 5 times the capabilities and a 10 megapixel camera)

The kits are not a big-name brand like Bosch- they're manufactured exclusively by HIDxtra (They're also not a "fake" kit). You've got 2 choices of kit, the cheaper fat ASIC ballast kit ($37) or the more expensive slim ASIC kit ($51). I personally recommend the slim kit, the components are very high quality and much more efficient (and cooler running) than the fat ballasts. Think efficient enough to start the truck while the HIDs are on the stock harness and not flicker. I have disassembled both a $30 HIDxtra Fat ballast and a $400 Bosch fat ballast. Only notable difference? Xtra uses leaded solder where Bosch is using pure silver, and the wire insulation in the Xtra unit is softer. That's about it.

Bulb colors available:
3000k
5000k
6000k
8000k
10000k
12000k

What makes the HIDExtra Conversion kit beat the competition :

The common fuse is often replaced by resistors, relays, or modules. However, newer vehicles 2006 and up are now using computer controlled modules for headlights. Due to the update, relays, resistors, & even some fuses are now being eliminated. HIDExtra HID Kit has specially programmed our digital chips inside our ballast to function with OEM standards; thus giving you no errors, no flickering and no DTC codes. We have designed size specific plug-in type connectors to connect to OEM power cable without any cutting, which makes it a simple Plug-and-Play installation. When it comes to putting an aftermarket HID lighting kit on your car, buying some cheap generic HID kit is not the way to go. Why take the risk of burning up your $2000 computer, damaging your Headlight system, or even your housing and wiring worth $600? We at HIDExtra.com don't play a guessing game when it comes to designing our ballast for your vehicle. We went through 1000's of hours of testing and programming making sure our kits works with all vehicle manufacturers. Our HID bulbs were designed to meet OEM standards like Philips and Osram quality, but at an affordable price for all to enjoy. We strongly believe our color rendering is amongst the best in the industry. We have the widest selection of Kelvin colors. Our bulb life is 5000 hours and can easily withstand harsh conditions. The HIDExtra HID bulb colors are very rich and guaranteed not to fade or burnout.

WHY OUR BALLASTS ARE CONSIDERED THE BEST QUALITY :

The most advanced HID ballasts made in China use a CPU programming controller (Digital Ballast). The program is so easy to copy that an electrical engineer could easily make this type of ballast in his living-room. This is why HID makers in China have grown so rapidly. These types of ballasts are not capable of real-time lamp monitoring (lamp current always changing). The operation is not smooth and safe, and then it causes many problems from electrical damage to possible fire loss. We used to sell these so called “Super Digital Ballasts”. The price was good and the quality was ok at first, and then a few months into our new product line the phone calls came pouring in. Bulb out, ballast out, color faded, warning light on the dash, flicker problems, etc. Many customers always say that an HID system that is made in China is no good, and their one year warranty is worthless. In our testings of ballasts, we concluded the supposed 2000-3000 work hours were really only 500-1000 hours. Analog ballasts which most other sellers use only lasted 200-300 hours.

ASIC HIDExtra ballasts are equipped with an ASIC chipset controller which, is the same type as HELLA(BMW, Mercedes HID Manufacturer); Matsushida (Nissan HID Manufacturer), etc. This type of chipset is very difficult to design, and cost our Engineering Department $600,000 to develop. This chipset has the capabilities of real-time lamp-monitoring and protection. HIDExtra chipset stabilizes the unit for perfect function at all times in all conditions. This crucial point is why our HID ballasts can last up to 10,000 Hours without any problems. HID bulb life is 5,000 hours using our ballast, compared to only 2,000 hours using CPU controller found in China ballasts. HIDExtra HID systems can be put in a class of quality that very few companies can reach. If you look at any company in our class you’ll see they all charge $1,000 + for the same system.

Yes, the kind with fluted lenses. I have 1500+ hours on this set with no sign of color fade or ballast issues. This is with a fat ballast.

Actually, it was $55 when I got it. It's now $37 (fat ballast). I've got the $49 (was $68) kit on the limo and a volvo. I mount the fat ballast to the sides of the radiator, while the slim ballasts and inverters can be tucked behind the turn signals. The slim kit is literally a drop in installation,  drunk << even they can do it!
